Medical Music Therapy
A little while ago, many people were moved by a video demonstrating the way a little girl, named Evie, self soothed and calmed herself by singing during medical treatments (watch the video here) with the assistance of a board certified music therapist.
Here is another video, featuring Evie, describing the way music helps sick children cope with illness in the hospital setting.
At MBMT, LLC we see many magical things happen with our Pediatric Palliative Care patients during music therapy visits and we are very grateful for the state funded PPCP that includes expressive therapies to families. We continue to hold hope that someday there will be an established music therapy at our local hospital! We are grateful to Lucy’s Love Bus for providing 2 hours a week at the Children’s Hospital with our dear friend and colleague, Inger Dybfest, RMT.
We hope there will some day be funding to build these 2 hours into a bigger program and, more importantly, more help for patients (and families). Medical music therapy helps children and adults in many ways!
